Mon 6/30 Nice quality keepers today - Come early this week

With our longer trip today we took a ride and caught some nice quality keeper fluke along with good short action and unfortunately some would have bee nice keeper sea bass( it does open tomorrow for one pp). Willie took the pool with a 4 + lb pool winner and would have taken 2nd with his other fish.  Teacher Ed, as we call him, came close and a few guys had two and one keeper fluke but no limits. We also had a couple of nice dolphin shows on the way down and on way home. And again, the parking is limited close to the boat with the fair in the harbor, so give yourself extra time and feel free to unload at the curb in front of the boat, and then park your car or truck. Thanks for looking in and here are some pics.

Sat, Sun 6/28 /29 Fishing improved and Get down early - Fair in Harbor

Saturday was not so great again catching mostly shorts and a couple of of keeper fluke. Today we found a little area of fish and managed to pick at short fluke, skates, dogfish and more keeper fluke than we have been catching on the morning trips.Couple of guys with two and one keeper fluke as Malcolm took the pool with one of his two keepers and also had second place with the other one. The afternoon was not as good but again better than it has been and we had a very nice breeze to keep us comfortable. Thing are starting to  pick up again so hope it improves. Please note that the fair is in the harbor and parking is limited in our area, (close to the boat) so come to the boat, unload and  then find a parking spot, even in sea streak parking lot as they park in our lot also. Summer is here so there is a lot of beach traffic if you come in the afternoon, give yourself some time. Thanks for looking in and here are some pics although they haven't been coming out too good.

Fri 6/27 Did it again despite the elements

We were the only boat to shape up to go out and thankfully we didn't get stuck with just enough. Made our way up to the north, but it was a little rolly but not terrible getting there but once we did it was nice. Had pretty good action with the short fluke and ended up with a few keepers. We also had the excitement of catching a few striped bass, shorts,  and one keeper, and a couple of bluefish, unfortunately there are not pics of them. Sailing every day, 2 half day trips on Weds, Fri, Sat and Sundays, but one 6 hr trip on Mon, Tues, and Thurs, all leaving at 8 AM , afternoons at 1:30. Thanks for looking in and here are some pics.

Thurs 6/26 Made the best of it and not bad

We ended up with a few guys form other boats that did not have enough, so we had a decent gang and our work cut out for us. Started to go down the beach but saw the wind and waves picking up. Pulled back the rains and made a couple of drifts that only produced a couple of shorts. Tried where we fished yesterday afternoon and same results. Ended up going into the NY harbor and we did put a catch together. We caught 4 fish over 3 lbs and pool fish just shy of 5 lbs, along with other keepers, 19" up there, and shorts. We will be sailing tomorrow morning but not sure about the afternoon, not looking good. Thanks for looking in and here are some pics with today's first then the others from the last two days.

Tues-Weds 6/24 & 25 fluke report

Just a quick update, On Tues we went back  to where we had the fish on Mon and had a decent first drift and then it fell apart. Picked slower but Bill did take the pool with a 4,7 lb beauty as we did not have many keeper fluke. Weds we tried a different area on out half day trip and again had a good first drift  then that was it after picking at shorts and a couple of keepers along with some nice sea bass that had to go back. On the afternoon trip we tried another area and picked all afternoon but not enough keeper fluke. HKere is Bills pic and will post the rest later.

MKon 6/23 Better catching - My theory right ?

With the tough fishing in the more local waters we decided to take a ride today with our longer hours, and it worked out. Pretty good action with the short fluke and enough keeper fluke to make it interesting, along with the black sea bass that have to go back and even a keeper blackfish that had to go back. Steve took the pool with one of his two keepers and George also took two fluke home. A few other singles around the boat and NO dogfish ! I have had this theory that the lack of fluke in the bay is from the over whelming amount of dog fish sharks, that we never caught in the bay years back. The cormorants are no help either eating all the bait the fluke feed on. Hopefully with the warmer temps the fish will move up into the bay and more local waters. The downfall of where we were fishing is that it is a long ride and the bottom is sticky causing the loss of rigs, the price you have to pay. Thanks for looking in and here are some pics.

Fri and weekend fluke report to 6/22

The fishing has been a struggle to say the least and we have been venturing out farther than we like to put a few fish in in the boat although most are shorts. Hopefully this warmer weather will bring more fish up to the bay areas.  Thanks for looking in and here are some pics from most recent on back.
