Tues 10/28 Striper report, What was I thinking...but then

Went out with a small group of dedicated fishermen, mostly regulars and figured we would be ok where we were going in a more protected area on a report from the day before, and the wind was not supposed not come up until later, wrong on both accounts. Couple of hours into the trip and only seeing birds bait and rolling around we were about to throw in the towel as I said to myself, What was I thinking. Got a report of lots of fish on top and tons of birds on them, but about 6 miles away. We went for it anyway running threw some rough seas. Got there and not a bird to be found but at least it was calmer. Looked around and found a few birds working and fish that were wild, couldn't catch up to them. Finally we got a fish for the pool. a little while later got a report of fish up not too far away and when we got there it was game on. 2 -3 on at  a time whenever we stopped and ended up putting slots (24-28") and keepers (28 -31") into the boat along with a few overs. The  few guys we had fished very hard and it paid off. Rod Stewart Bob ended up with 2 big overs. No boats went out on Weds although it was nicer then Tues, again weather man did it. Our next trip will be on Sat 11/1 sailing 3/4 day form 7:30 AM to 2:30/3 every day weather permitting. Thanks for looking in and here are a few pics.

Mon 10/27 Tough and a little rough and going Tues 10/28

Got a report of life where I didn't really want to go but we went. Lots of birds working and a few splashes but they would not bite as we rolled around, but it did get nicer. Worked our way to other areas that were nicer and had some life but still no good. Finally boated a big one for the pool, first fish if there are no keepers caught. We will be there to go tomorrow morning UNLESS the wind is already bowing hard, it is not supposed to until later and we have some protected areas to fish that are now producing fish. Thanks for looking in and hope to see you on the boat.

Sun 10/26 Better yet - but the BOATS !

Sorry for the late report but I have a life too and had to go to a birthday/retirement party early. Got lucky today as we found an area of fish on top going wild and got a couple of shots at them before the masses of boats, I mean a lot of boats arrived  to kill the bite. The fish are there it's just a matter of timing and being in the right place at the right time. Lots of bait moved closer to us so the fish should be following. Sailing tomorrow at a new 3/4 day schedule from 7:30 AM - 3  but not sure about Tues and definitely not the rest of the week with another northeaster coming through Friday. Thanks for looking in and here are a few pics of some of the fish as it was mayhem when thy bit and did not want to keep them out of the water too long. PS the little guy did catch that fish that was almost as big as him.

Sat 10/25 Little better but not enough

We did a little better today but still not up to par. The fish are not local so we will changing to our regular 3/4 day schedule starting Monday 10/27 sailing for 7:30 AM to about 2:30/3. We ran from our beach to the east Rock away beach looking for some fish to catch and found a few bunker pods with fish in;them but only pulled out a few. If you can pick up some bunker snaggers a local tackle shop, none in the harbor. Back at it in the morning again until Tuesday anyway, and have to watch the weather after that. Russ was high hook with two and Mike C got his but all were too big again. Thanks for looking in and here are a few pics.

Fri 10/24 Another tough one

We went out with a small group and high hopes and found lots of bird life.  Fish that did not want to eat again, so we looked and looked in different areas. Did manage a beast '@ 49", but did not want to waste time weighing it so we could get it back in the water fast. That's today's story and it sounded like all the boats had tough time, must be the moon. It should break open soon so don't wait for the report, be in the report. Sailing every day weather permitting, and will be changing to one 3/4 day trip @ 7:30 AM to 2:30/3 PM starting on Monday. Thanks for looking in and hope to see you on  the dock.

Weds /Thurs 10 22 & 23 It's fishing

After a decent trip on Tues we bombed out on Weds even though the fish were there but did not want to eat, hate when that happens. This morning not enough showed up to go but while on that point, please call if you are going to arrive after 7:30AM so we can decide if we are going to go out or not and transfer the folks to a another boat, since we do not take reservations it is hard to tell. Too many time people say they are coming and do not show with out a phone call. Sailing every day, weather and people permitting, @ 8AM - 2. Thanks for looking in and hope to see you on the boat.

Trophy Tues 10/21 - good fishing but all too big

Went out with another small group but had a great day catching  trophy fish, all overs form 38 - 47 " but nothing to take home but pictures and memories. One older gentleman complained that it was the biggest fish of his life and why couldn't he keep it. Doug got the pool with the first fish boated and caught a total of 5. Our policy is first fish caught unless a keeper is caught. Mike also got 3 and a few others with 2 and one, but finally a decent day of catching fish. Sailing every day from 8 am to 2 weather permitting so come get em. Thanks for looking in and here are pics of some of the fish.

Sun 10/19 Striper report - call if you will be later than 7:30 AM

We made it out with a small group and heard the ocean was rough but we decided to try it anyway as we caught a few the day before there.  It was not nice but we made our way down and found fish and birds but again very hard to catch. Besides being hard to hook some people will not listen as we told them what to do and what to use. Very frustrating, in fact if you haven't fished for them before and will not listen then don't bother coming. We did boat a couple, of course too big and lost a few but they were there and we should have caught a lot more. 12 yr old Raffaele boated his biggest fish ever at 39", cause he listened. Russ also boated a 46" monster after losing one one after a ten minute battle. No body went today, Monday, with the forecast but we will be going the rest of the week if enough show up and weather permitting.. We are till on a 8 AM - 2pm schedule, but don't know how much longer, and the other boats leave at 7:30 so  I have to make a decision at that time weather to go or not so call if you will be later than 7:30 AM. Thanks for looking in and here are a couple of pics.

Fri /Sat 10/17 & 18 Striper reports - Rick had the trick - Not going out Mon 10/20

We went over 40 miles total on Friday,  looking for fish and found some east of Debs inlet (east Rockaway)and off of long beach, long island, but they did not want to bite, birds and fish on top but not hungry. All for naught as we never had a bite. Today we went out with a handful of fisherman since it was such a nice day, but in a different direction and did find some fish but not none we could keep. Rick was the man boating 2 fish @ 46 and 45 inches, obviously overs, and lost one at the boat. Mike C also boated at 40 inches. So come and get your trophy fish, you may not go home with it but will have  picture of a life time. Sailing tomorrow but NOT on Monday with the weather turning again. Thanks for looking and here are the pics.

Thurs 10/16 No go so no report

If you were waiting for a striped bass report, we have none since the three boats that shaped up in our port could not muster enough between them to go out. Along with the strong winds today it was probably  a blessing. Personally I think it is too early but we did not have a choice with the winds and storm that went by, but unfortunately boats that did go out did not catch much but we will try again in the morning. The sea bass fishing is not out of the picture so there is a possibility of switching back if they are still around and with in reach, especially if the stripers don't show ( for now anyway). We will give it our best shot tomorrow and go from there. Thanks for looking in and hope to see you on the boat.

Weds 10/15 - Change of plans - Now Striped bass fishing

With the winds the next two days and all the hype of the sea bass being gone after the storm we will start striped bass fishing starting tomorrow, Thurs 10/16, sailing every day using jigs and shads, so bring a rod to cast with or you can rent a spinning rod on the boat for $20. Sailing the same schedule FOR NOW but may change after we see how it goes. Thanks for looking in and sorry for the sudden change. Here is an old pic.

Friday's report & pics - Did they stay or did they go

On Fri we picked at the fish but not the best of conditions so we had to anchor, but put a catch together, of mostly sea bass but a few keeper black fish and some porgies mixed in. Nobody has sailed or fished since then so we do not know what to expect after this northeaster but will try on Thurs or Fri, watching the weather for Thurs. If the fishing does not pan out we may be switching to Stripers but I think it is a little too early. , and would rather bottom fish a little longer. We will see so here are pics of some of the fish from Fri. Thanks for looking in.

Fri 10/10 - Not sailing tom Sat 10/11 Due to weather

Looks like the weather maybe coming in early so we, and I think the other boats will not be going out tomorrow, Saturday, 10/11 and probably not until at least Weds. I will post today's report and pics later or tomorrow. Thanks for looking in and sorry if we ruined your plans, thank you mother nature again.

Rest of Tues pics - Sailing Fri & Sat 10/10 &11

Here are the rest of the pics of some of the fish caught on Tues. We will be going out on Fri and Sat but who knows after that with the strong noreaster coming in. Hopefully it doesn't chase the fish away so we will play it by ear and go from there. Thanks for looking in.
