Thurs 10/29 Caught the Bass, the Monster Bass

    Went out today with a nice group of "hoodie" regulars and others, (guys that had the kick'n Bass sweat shirts). Bob the truck driver, broke his cherry for this year to start off with a big one on the first drift. Stayed more local today and put a few big fish from 35" to 47" in the boat with Wild Bill boating 3 and Big Mike Q  taking 2 including  the pool fish @ 47". A few others around the boat were boated along with a few that were lost, on a beautiful day on the water. To top it off with a Big whale chasing the bunkers, which we saw a few times,  along with a bald eagle at the same time. Dolphins also showed up so it was quite a nature show, how do you beat that !?  Back at it tomorrow and every day, weather permitting, and don't forget to bring your shads, weighted snagger hooks, and jigs as the live baits that were snagged worked better but other fish were caught on the shads. Weds 10/28 Trophy Striper time - the big ones

     We started off local with some some bird life but no success so we went a different way then yesterday, but still a long ride. Howard caught his and the boats personal best at 50+ inches and least 50 + lbs, did not want to weigh it so it would live. Boated another at 44 " and lost a couple. The trick is to have a bunker snagger, a weighted treble hook  to snag a bunker and then put it on a live bait rig with circle hook.  We did boat fish on shads  and also jigs lately, but right now the live bait works best. Back at it in the AM so hope to see you on the boat.

 

Tiger Tues 10/27 Took the ride - came back with pride

     First let me wish my Sister a happy 70th, not that she will read this. We ended up with a  small group but we heard fish were at an area far away, so we took the ride anyway. Slow start, as I was thinking, why did I go this far, but as it turned out it was worth it after a handful of doughnuts on the last few trips. All big fish from 38 to 42" , boated some and lost some but at least something. Mike boated 2 and a few others landed around the boat, along with the ones that got away fish. Please listen to what the mates and it tell you, as we want you to catch and land fish. Hope they move closer and see you on the boat. Monday 10/26 update - Call if you are arriving after 7:30 AM

     We made it out on Friday and Saturday with the same sad results.  Trying to sail every day now, weather permitting and of course enough showing up. Sunday morning we had 3 until 7:30 and gave them a choice to stay and hope of more showing up or jump on another boat. They left and then more showed up that would have gave us enough to go. Therefore if you a running late or will arrive after 7:30 please give me a call. We are all hoping that things will pick up after this full moon but there is more bait showing so pick up some snaggers and bait rigs just in case. Thurs 10/22 Game ON ! It's a go for Fri 10/23

     It may be breezy tomorrow, Friday, but we WILL be going. Hope the stripers are there and hungry. Also hope there are not too many small boats to knock them down if they come up, don't get me wrong there are a lot of sharp small boater fisher people, but there are also a lot of idiots the just plow into the fish and knock them down. Bring what you got, jigs, shads, bunker snaggers and rigs for live bait if you get a bunker. See you in the AM and lets hope for the best. Thanks for looking in.

Weds update, the winds won't stop - next trip now Friday 10/23

   We were planning on going out Thurs but will hold off until Friday since winds are still blowing. Hopefully the cooler temps pushed some more fish down and they will be hungry. Still on the 8AM - 2 schedule for now but please come by 7:30 or call ahead so we can figure if we have enough to go. Thanks for looking in.

Sunday 10/18 They eluded us again - Not sailing until Thurs.

     The morning started off breezy and choppy which the stripers usually like. We searched and tried here there and every where from Sandy hook and Raritan bay down the beach, across to the NY side and back. Saw a lot of birds and bait at times but no good, and not just for us. By the afternoon the winds died and it turned out nice for the later part of the day and it still didn't help. With that being said we are going to take a pass the next few days with the NE winds picking up and no fish to boot. We will try again on Thurs if the weather straightens out. Thanks for looking in.

Sat 10/17 Sailing Sunday and maybe Monday

     We will be going out tomorrow, Sunday and maybe Monday if possible, but the rest of the week does not look good with the wind forecast.  Bring you big shads, jigs, and bunker snaggers and don't forget to check your line, knots and of course you DRAG as the fish are big. Thurs 10/15 That good day was not today - Not sailing until Sunday

     We went out with a very small group, really not enough, but wanted to try other areas and put a catch together. It did not pan out and that reminds me as long as we are on the  8- 2 schedule, please try and get to the boat by 7:30, or call me, so if we do not have enough we can put you on a another boat and not send you home. Can not be going out with a handful of guys with fuel at $6 + a gallon. The wind forecast for the next two days is not good so we will not be sailing. Thanks for looking in and keep posted as we maybe changing our schedule.

Weds 10/14 Striper report - We sailed and failed, back at it in the AM

    We went out with a group of good regulars, everyone we knew and looked forward to some Stiper catching. Like a boxer that got down in the first round we had a tough day, but will be back at it in the morning. Not sure about Friday and Sat with the weather coming in so will let you know tomorrow. Did lose a big one, so check you gear, line, knots and DRAG!  If you are not sure about it have one of our experienced mates check it for you or have them go over everything. Please listen to us as we want you to catch and bring that big fish in. Thanks for looking in and hope to see you on the boat. Monday 10/12 Fishing schedule update - Striper special Weds

     With the poor catching of keeper sea bass the last 2 trips we decided to try for stripers on Weds on the same schedule, 8 -2. Not sure what to expect as there are not many good reports of catching them on shads or jigs so bring what you got and we will go from there, it has got to happen some time and we want to be ready. Fri/Sat 10/9 & 10 reports - Not sailing next few days

     Well we fished different areas off shore on Friday and fished inshore Saturday with the same results, decent short action at times but very few keepers, just like the fluking was. Not sailing the next few days with the weather coming in and will decide from there. Hope something will change soon. Thanks for looking in.

Weds 10/7 Fishing report and schedule

      It was a very nice day on the water with light winds and calm seas. The wind is a big factor in this fishing as a boat can go to more spots not having to anchor and usually catch more fish. We caught on most of the spots but again mostly short sea bass with a couple of small porgies and small blackfish and some keeper sea bass. A lot of work for not a lot of keepers but at least the action was good with a high hook of 4 or 5 on down to just shorts. We did not try to sail today with the wind forecast but back at it Friday and Sat, not sure about Sunday yet. We are down to only one morning trip a day, 8 AM - 2, no afternoons. Staying with the bottom fishing on a limited schedule until enough Stripers show up to catch during the day. Thanks for looking in and don't be afraid to call if not sure of the schedule. Sat 10/2 Sea bass report - next trip Weds 10/7

     We ended up cancelling today's trip with the wind blowing from the NE. On Sat we picked away at the fish, all sea bass but mostly shorts,  with some getting a few  to take home but at least the action was good. Tomorrows weather does not sound good so we will hold off sailing till Weds. hoping the stripers show up soon for day time fishing. Weds 9/30 update - Sailing Fri and Sat 10/1 & 2 for Sea bass & ?

            The storm has passed and the ocean is nice so we will sail a couple of days, just  Fri and Sat, bottom fishing for sea bass and whatever else bites. The reports are not good with too many shorts but some keepers mixed in, sounds like fluking. There was a report of some stripers showing up yesterday so if you want to bring an extra spin rod and shads or jigs we may  take a stab at them if  they show but NOT targeting them. Monday 9/21 Last fluke report - the end till further notice

      We decided last minute to run a half day trip on Monday with the calls I was getting. I knew it would not be that nice but it was nicer than Saturday, no open boats sailed on Sunday. Caught a keeper fluke and a couple of shorts on the first two drifts waiting for the current to slow down. Went to where we caught them on Sat and picked but not as good as it was on Sat. Andy had the hot hand getting his limit plus one in keeper fluke, Jamie got his two, one was 3.9 only to be beat out by a 4.2lb fish, and there were a few other singles around the boat along with the shorts and small sea bass. I was satisfied with the catch, not knowing what to expect. With the strong north east winds this week I do not think anyone will be sailing until next week, at least we will not be until further notice. Thanks for looking in and here are some pics. 

 

Sunday 9/20 update Sailing tomorrow Monday 9/21 half day, maybe the last fluke trip

    We decided to try again tomorrow morning with the calls i got,  but only a half day trip with  the winds and being restricted to the bay. It may be our last fluke trip and hope we can repeat yesterday but it won't be easy. The rest of the week does not look good weather wise so we may not be sailing until the following week. Sat 9/20 Made up for yesterday - nice surprise

    I knew we could not fish where we wanted to so decided to do a half day trip this morning and was hoping just to get a  few keeper fluke and some short action. The seas were not nice but we banged out  more than quadruple of what I expected in keepers. Donata got her limit early and Bill also got his 3 fish limit. Quite a few doubles around including for the guy who caught the pool fish of 6 lbs, also the singles and shorts that we caught. What a nice surprise although there were a few under the weather with the seas. It was a good way to end the fluke season if we can't get out again. Not sailing tomorrow, Sunday, with the rain and wind, not sure about Monday yet but the rest of the week looks bad. Thanks for looking in and here are some pics of most of the keeper fluke.

 

 

Fri 9/18 Not like yesterday, will try going out tomorrow

     We got out with another decent gang and went back to where we had some fish yesterday but there was an undertow and it was tough to hold bottom. Tried where we had a few fish the day before but only caught a couple of keeper fluke and shorts. Ended up going farther south to get out of the current and had a decent pick of short fluke and  sea bass but only few keepers. Jay took the pool with his nice keeper. We will try again tomorrow, see how bad the wind is, and go from there. The next few days after that do not look good. Thanks for looking in and here are a few pics.
